Mayor Krendel rubbed his forehead wearily again, for at least the third time that day.

“I don’t deserve this…” he said to no one in particular to his now empty house with doubled as his office. He had just finished dealing with Janice and Bernice, two old hags who argued with each other about just about everything, and brought their petty daily disputes to him. Besides them, he had returned a lost dog, finished re-transcribing an old scroll into a readable format, and finished a 5-mile jog earlier that morning. He felt older than his 56 years of age; by no means was he the oldest, but since he was so respected and wise he had been elected (practically forced, he thought on a sardonic note) mayor and had served a good 4 years already. He sat up and sighed audibly.

“Perhaps a good nap will help, maybe for an hour or two…” he thought to himself. He ignored his messy desk (for yet another day…) and wandered over to the adjoining room and his small blue bed. He slid under the covers with a small groan, and closed his eyes, trying to fall asleep, letting the day’s worries wash away before dealing with the night.

A loud banging interrupted his attempts at sleep. With a groan, he rolled out of bed, and got to his feet. He slothfully made his way to the door, not too interested in hearing yet another petty argument. He opened it, to see a young man, out of breath. Krendel recognized the tan shorts and brown overshirt and sighed.

“What is it this time…” he said, disinterested.

The young man could barely keep his composure. “It’s huge! Huge! I mean, I’ve never seen anything like it!” He wiped his black hair out of his face.

Krendel merely replied, “Of course the baker bakes hugs creations, he’s weird like that. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have some…work to do. And…get a better shirt, that thing’s ugly, it makes you look like you took a tent and cut half of it for a shirt.” He promptly shut the door and shuffled lethargically back for his bed, only to have his door banged on again. He opened it back up.

“Please! It’s important! Come on!” The young man’s voice had a twinge of desperation in it. Krendel Sighed again.

“Alright, I’m commin, I’m commin…” He slowly made his way outside. The young man pointed upwards in the sky, practically hopping up and down.

“You see it?”

Krendel slowly looked upwards in the sky, and his mouth fell slightly down. “What the devil…”

A large chunk of metal and earth was floating above the town of its own accord., with what appeared to be buildings on the top of it. Krendel kept staring at its immense size.

The young man looked back at Krendel. “Mayor, what should we do?”

Krendel stared, perplexed. The young man repeated himself, and Krendel snapped back to attention.

“Tell everyone to get inside, and lock their doors, shut their shutters, and not to open up for anybody, got it? I’ll take care of this quickly.” Krendel’s voice was low and firm. The young man nodded, and ran off. Krendel rushed back to his own house, and closed his shutters before closing his door and locking it.

He began to pace his floor. “What to do, what to do…I don’t know what that thing is…who knows what to do…who could possibly-“ he paused. “That old geezer…he’s just weird enough to have some idea of what to do. I’m desperate enough to ask.” Krendel rushed out of his house, and left for the hill, hoping to catch him there.
My attempt at continuing "The Passing". I'm sorry I couldn't do a better job, I just couldn't think of ANYTHING epic to write. Sorry if it's subpar compared to my usual works.

Agree with Stephen, it's really good, I enjoyed reading it. And yes one can't help but sympathize with the poor guy's troubles. Congrats  :blowkiss:
